Police get 10 days from court to interrogate HNLC leader

Shillong, Mar 2: The district and sessions court on Saturday granted 10 days for the police to interrogate the arrested HNLC leader Storgy Lyngdoh.

A police source said that 10 days of custody was given after he was produced before the court on Saturday evening.

Earlier, the SP Rituraj Ravi said that on March 1, the East Khasi Hills Police received information that one cadre of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Storgy Lyngdoh, had served demand notes to extort money for the HNLC leading to widespread scare and fear psychosis to a number of businessmen of Shillong. As per inputs he might have succeeded in scaring and threatening individuals to submit to the illegal extorting demands. It was further ascertained that he was residing in Mawlynrei, Khliehshnong, Shillong.

In pursuant to the information, the East Khasi Hills police arrested Storgy from Mawlynrei in the early morning of March 2. During his arrest, one Bangladeshi SIM card was also recovered from him.

Storgy is an active member of the HNLC with a close link to the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the HNLC. He was also the PSO of A. Hazarika @ Manbhalang Jyrwa, the previous Vice Chairman of HNLC.

In this connection, an FIR has been registered at Rynjah police station for further investigation into the matter. As per the records of Meghalaya Police, he is involved in many criminal cases and was evading the due process of law.
