Shillong, May 16: Police have used section 41(A) CRPC for the people to appear before the investigation officer in connection with the case related to harrassment of a woman as she was tied to a pole in a market place in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills.
A senior police official said the incident happened on May 10 after the woman stole money from someone in the market.
The video of the woman was shot and circulated following which the police took suo motu action.
The police have asserted that no one should take law into their hands.
According to the police, since it was a market place, there were many vendors who came from far-flung areas and the notice issued under 41(A) will be a mechanism so that those who were present can appear before the police.
The chairperson of Meghalaya State Women’s Commission, Phidalia Toi has already taken up the matter with the SP.
