Police recover anti- aircraft live ammunition in SWGH

Shillong, April 25: Police recovered 340 numbers of anti-aircraft live ammunition from four ammunition boxes from a forest in South Garo Hills, on Thursday morning.


According to a statement by the SP Shailendra Bamania, on April 24, information was received from a reliable source that some ammunition boxes were kept hidden by suspected militants somewhere in the jungle of Chibokgre village under Chokpot PS, South Garo Hills District. Around 1.15 am, one team led by Sub Divisional Police Officer Chokpot accompanied by other police officers proceeded to the area to conduct search for the hidden ammunition and on Thursday   around 3:27 am , they unearthed the ammunition and boxes from Chibokgre jungle. The recovered items were seized by Officer-in Charge  Chokpot in the presence of witnesses.

To a question whether the ammunition belonged to GNLA, the SP said, “It’s not confirmed, currently matter is under investigation”.
