Police recover body of suicide victim from Umiam river

Shillong, March 24: Police on Monday recovered the body of Kench’s Trace resident Pritish Deb who jumped from Umiam bridge, on Sunday afternoon.
The body of Deb was recovered around 1.50 pm after a search by the personnel of state disaster response team and fire and emergency service, police said on Monday.
Deb, who is the husband of Silanda Mylliemngap of Laban, Kench’s Trace, owns an electronic shop at Last Stop, Laban, police added.
Deb had left behind his bag before jumping into the lake on Sunday which enabled the relatives to identify him from documents.
Police could not recover the body on Sunday despite frantic search amid rain.
According to eye witnesses, Deb opened his shop twice on Sunday before proceeding to Umiam. Some fishermen saw him jumping into the river.
On Monday, the search resumed and the body was spotted as the rain subsided.
