Shillong, May 24: Police have recovered a suspected human skull on May 22 and the remaining body parts on Thursday and Friday, in the city.
According to a statement issued by East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi, on May 22, one suspected human skull was found lying adjacent to the drain on the road along Bivar road, Shillong.
“An investigation and a search operation were launched immediately to ascertain the identity of the deceased and to find the remaining body parts. On 23.05.2024, the decomposed lower limbs were found by the search team inside the drain near Bivar road. Further, on 24.05.2024, the search team recovered parts of upper torso from the drain after a prolonged search. Further search is still undergoing. The recovered body parts have been sent to NEIGRIHMS for medical examination. The body is suspected to be of a male person based on the apparel found on the remains of the body”, the statement said.
“In this regard a case has been registered at Sadar PS vide Sadar PS Case No. 160(05)2024 u/s 302 IPC (murder) and efforts are being made to identify the victim. Further investigation in the matter is under progress”, the SP added.
According to sources, the skull and body parts were soaked due to rain and there is a probability they were washed down.
