Police recover over 400 rounds of AK live ammunition

Shillong,Jan 30: Police recovered arns and ammunition buried near a tree in Rongjeng in East Garo Hills.

The recoveries include one country-made small weapon, two numbers of 2-inch live mortar shells, and 428 rounds of suspected 7.62 live AK ammunition.

According to a statement by East Garo Hills SP,  SA Rynjah, on January 29, acting on reliable source inputs, a special operations police team from Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, conducted search in the Chibilbang village jungle under Rongjeng Police Station. The operation commenced at 10 pm on January 29, and around 1 am on January 30,  the team recovered a cache of arms and ammunition buried near a large tree in the area.

Police suspect that arms and ammunition may belong to erstwhile GNLA.
