
Shillong, May 6: Police are yet to ascertain the reason for goons to attack a former pastor in North Garo.Hills.
According to the police on May 5, around 3.15 an information was received at Wageasi OGC that around 1.30 am the ex-pastor Biren Sangma came out of his house at Chilpara, Mendima under Wageasi OGC to use washroom.
After seeing a vehicle parked at PWD road infront of his house, he headed to the gate but before reaching, some goons fired a bullet and it hit on his chest. As he ran back to his house another bullet was fired but missed .The matter was informed to the neighbours and villagers. Later, the victim was shifted to Goalpara Solace Hospital where he was referred to higher medical facility in Guwahati for better treatment.
According to the police, he sustained serious injury and is still under treatment in Guwahati.
In this regard an FIR has been registered vide Kharkutta PS C/No. 04/2025 U/s 109(1)/3(5) BNS r/w 27(1)(2) Arms Act.
Two empty cases of bullets were recovered from the crime scene. Forensic team from Shillong also visited the crime spot and completed all the necessary evidence collection.
Police are looking into all angles to investigate the matter and to find out the culprits and motive behind the act.
The victim was a pastor earlier and used to preach in the locality, the police added.
