Speaking at the event, Ranjan emphasised the importance of the release. “This permanent pictorial cancellation is a testament to Meghalaya’s heritage. It will serve as a symbol of the Shillong Golf Course, introducing its beauty and history to the world with every piece of mail that carries it.”

The Shillong Golf Course, established in 1898 and one of the oldest and most picturesque in the country, was chosen for this unique honour. The special pictorial cancellation, featuring the iconic golf course, will now be available at the Shillong GPO. It is expected to draw attention from philatelists and tourists alike, further promoting Meghalaya’s rich cultural and natural offerings.

Verma remarked, “This cancellation not only enhances the significance of philately in the region but also serves as a tribute to the people of Meghalaya and their cherished landmarks.”

The event concluded with the dignitaries expressing their hope that this initiative will inspire more efforts to document and preserve the unique heritage of the Northeast region.
