Prestone & Ampareen try to douse anti BJP-NPP allegations

Shillong, Mar 25: NPP leader Prestone Tynsong and the candidate for Shillong seat Ampareen Lyngdoh said the party is different from BJP though the letter had extended support.

They said people should reject the views that BJP and NPP are the same.

Tynsong, who is also the NPP state president and deputy chief minister told reporters that these are used by the political opponents to defame the party.

“The allegation that NPP is BJP and BJP is NPP is highly unacceptable. Such allegations usually come once in five years during MP, MLA and MDC elections. Therefore, I urge the voters not to believe in such allegations, which come out only during elections,” Tynsong told reporters on Friday.

Tynsong also recalled that in 2018 and 2023, similar allegations were made saying that people should not vote for NPP as NPP is BJP and if they win elections, they may even close down churches and take away freedom of people to worship and follow any faith they like but under the NPP leadership nothing like that happened.

According to Ampareen, those who will not vote for the NPP will say so many things.

“You have seen on social media how they are throwing stones at us. But I say we should not doubt. Instead of creating a division in the state and losing it is better they (BJP) make such a decision so tomorrow when we go to parliament they will recognize the MPs from Meghalaya, it is because of them, and we did not put up candidates. Therefore, I feel that it is already a big introduction for us”, Ampareen said.

Ampareen also said that it was a surprise for her to know that the BJP had extended support to her and party’s Tura candidate.

“The supporters of the NPP as well as BJP are in shock as we have never seen this kind of politics. When I look at the objective of getting a stable government, the BJP has sent a strong message to the state through the chief minister that they have to listen to the aspirations of the state and what our leaders are demanding,” Lyngdoh said.
