Pyrtuh says he is Khasi, not from Bharat

Shillong, Sept 26: Kyrsoibor Pyrtuh, who is contesting from North Shillong constituency as a KAM candidate, has denounced the remark of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, saying he is a Khasi and is not from Bharat.

Bhagwat on Sunday said any individual born in Bharat is a Hindu. Reacting to this, Pyrtuh posted on social media, “Dear Mr Bhagwat, RSS chief. I am not a Hindu. I am a Khasi and I am not from Bharat. I belong to the Hynniew Trep land, the land of my ancestors which in between 1947-48 acceded to the Dominion Of India via IOA and subsequently relegated to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.”

Reiterating his Khasi identity, Pyrtuh said he, however, lives in harmony with other ethnic communities who had “inhabited our ancestral land”.

TUR, KAM against RSS chief

In a separate statement, Thma U Rangli-Juki & KAM Meghalaya took objection to the statement by Bhagwat.

KAM leader Angela Rangad said this not only goes against the pluralist traditions of India with diverse faiths but also points to the insidious attempts by the Hindutva eco system to violently turn India into a Hindu Rashtra.

“Moreover Mr. Bhagwat was speaking in Shillong, Meghalaya where indigenous tribals have never been part of the Hindu caste and religious order. TUR & KAM shall always defend the secular character of the Indian Republic where freedom of religion, faith and culture is celebrated and defended”, Rangad said.
