Rahul launches campaign in Kashmir, vows to restore statehood
Srinagar, Sep 4 (UNI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday kicked off the party’s campaign in South Kashmir for the Assembly election, emphasising the restoration of statehood to J&K as the top priority.
Addressing a rally in Dooru, Anantnag, Gandhi asserted that the INDI alliance, which the Congress is part of, would win the polls in J&K. He criticised the BJP and RSS, saying they were on one side, while the INDI alliance partners Congress and National Conference, fighting for justice, was on the other.
The former Congress president noted that the downgrading of J&K from a state to a union territory was unprecedented in Indian history.
“The people of J&K have been denied their rights, and it’s not just a matter of Congress or National Conference; it’s the responsibility of every Indian to ensure J&K gets its state back,” the Lok Sabha leader of opposition said.
He claimed that the INDI alliance had shaken Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s confidence, forcing the government to concede to opposition demands.
