Raijor Dal extends support to Angela Rangad
Shillong, July 27: Raijor Dal party headed by political leader from Assam, Akhil Gogoi has extended support to Angela Rangad, the leader of Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) who is fighting for the workers of Meghalaya.
Angela has been demanding immediate release of financial aid promised to the daily wagers and the marginalised sections by the Meghalaya government in the context of the Covid-19 induced lockdowns and economic distress.
In a statement on Tuesday, Debanga Sourav Gogoi, the Publicity Secretary of Raijor Dal, said that last year, the Meghalaya government had announced income support to daily wagers to help them through the lockdown during the first wave as part of the Chief Minister’s Relief Against Wage Loss. A total amount of Rs. 52 crore was promised in March 2020, with Rs 2,100 to be given to each beneficiary.
“However, the disbursal of the funds has not been carried out so far. In an RTI application filed by Rangad and TUR in November 2020, it came to the light that there were irregularities both in registration of workers and providing benefit to the workers. Unfortunately, no action has been taken by the authorities to address these irregularities”, Gogoi said.
Gogoi added that they are in complete solidarity with the demands raised by Rangad.
“We hope that taking cognizance of the democratic and resilient protest of Rangad, the Meghalaya government fulfills the promises that it had made to the workers of the state and releases their rightful funds immediately”, Gogoi added.
