Regional connectivity fillip to NE in Budget 2025

Shillong, Feb 1: The Union Budget 2025 gave a fillip to the regional connectivity scheme UDAN that would help the northeastern states enhance connectivity with the rest of the country.

A modified UDAN scheme will be launched to enhance regional connectivity to 120 new destinations and carry 4 crore passengers in the next 10 years. The scheme will also support helipads and smaller airports in hilly, aspirational, and North East region districts.

“The budget prioritises infrastructure development, aviation expansion, and innovation, positioning India as a global hub for large-scale projects. This creates significant demand for skilled project management professionals who will be pivotal in executing these ambitious ventures, especially critical ones like the advancement of foundational geospatial infra and data under the PM Gati Shakti Scheme,” said Amit Goyal, Regional Managing Director, South Asia – Project Management Institute.

The North East will also gain from the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 programme, the cost norms for which will be enhanced appropriately.

The programme provides nutritional support to more than 8 crore children, 1 crore pregnant women and lactating mothers all over the country, and about 20 lakh adolescent girls in aspirational districts and the northeastern region.
