Shillong, June 7: The relatives of the Raghuvanshi couple may move the High Court of Meghalaya concerning the disappearance of Sonam Raghuvanshi and the recovery of the body of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore.
Indore MP Shankar Lalwani, who recently visited Shillong, indicated that the relatives may move the court for a CBI probe into the matter depending on the investigation by the police.
After the recovery of the body of Raja on June 2, there has been no progress on the probe by the police.
As the incident is related to both Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya, the CBI can step in but the hurdle is that the Meghalaya government had in 2022 withdrawn the general consent granted to the CBI to take up cases in Meghalaya.
The consent of the state government is necessary for the CBI to start probe as it is governed by the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946.
In this context, there are three options:The state government can move the Centre for the CBI probe or the court can give an order. Thirdly, the Centre can intervene and issue an order.
