Shillong, Sept 2:The funeral of 26-year-old Jonathan Rynjah, who was found dead in the toilet of a train in Palakkad in Kerala, was held here on Tuesday.
A police official probing the case in Kerala informed that, though he is yet to receive the post-mortem report, initial information indicates a case of asphyxia, as food particles were found following the post-mortem.
The passengers noticed Jonathan frequenting the toilet of the S-6 coach of Vivek Express, which was locked from the inside for a long time, leading to railway authorities seeking the help of the police as the train reached Palakkad.
Later, the medical officer at the Palakkad district hospital declared him dead.
According to the police, there were no external injuries, though an unnatural death case was registered.
Relatives seek probe into theft of phone & cash in Guwahati
The relatives wanted the police to investigate how his phone and cash were stolen in Guwahati.
Jonathan had gone to Guwahati railway station on August 26 and remained in the waiting room to board the train to Thiruvananthapuram the next day.
However, he informed the relatives that his mobile phone and cash were stolen in Guwahati.
After he boarded the train to Kerala on August 27, there has been no further communication from him.
“The last call was made at 7 am on Wednesday (August 27)”, said Jonathan’s father, Kordor Shabong, who had also sent some money via Gpay to the mobile phone of another person.
Later on August 29, the police from Kerala informed the father about the unnatural death after he was found unconscious inside the toilet of the train around 2.40 pm.
Jonathan was to join Sree Nandhaas Bakery in Thiruvananthapuram after his friend found a vacancy there.
He had worked with the friend earlier in Ooty in Tamil Nadu and later for one month in Kerala before he returned to Shillong post-COVID scenario.
As the family is poor, Jonathan promised to work hard before he left for Kerala, said his sister Jessica Rynjah.
The family is staying in a rented accommodation in Mawlai Nongkwar.
The relatives wanted a high-level probe into the entire incident, starting from Guwahati to Palakkad.
