Reservation policy, ILP to be part of BJP poll manifesto
Shillong, Mar 22: The BJP on Tuesday said reviewing of the state reservation policy and implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) will be part of its manifesto for the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections.
“The party supports the demand of our senior MLA AL Hek that 40% should be reserved for the downtrodden and the weaker section,” BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said.
When pointed out that the policy speaks about reservation for Khasi-Jaintia and Garo people, the BJP leader clarified, “We are talking about the downtrodden and the poor. 80% of the population are farmers and most of the people are BPL. Therefore, we have to provide jobs to them and this policy will help to solve this issue.”
On ILP, the BJP leader said the party is supporting the demand.
According to him, the BJP MLAs are also part of the resolution unanimously passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2019, urging the Centre to immediately implement the ILP system in Meghalaya.
