Resign from your job and contest polls, says Tynsong

Shillong,Dec 14: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has said anybody who wants to join politics should first resign from their jobs.

“As a politician, I welcome intellectuals to join politics. I did join politics but I resigned from my job,” Tynsong told reporters on Tuesday.

His view was in response to the demand of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) to withdraw the notification which bars government employees including teachers from holding office in any political organisation.

Tynsong resigned from his job on October 15, 2002 before joining politics.

“I think we need to understand that whoever wants to join politics, the door is always open, you can join anytime any moment but you need to resign from your job that is very simple,” he said.

VPP, after submitting a letter to Chief Minister (in picture) had alleged that the notification is an attempt of the government to prevent intellectuals from joining the newly floated political party.

However, the deputy chief minister said that the government will examine before taking a call on the demand.

According to Tynsong, the proposal had come from the education department and the government notified the same.

“If there is some opposition, we will see and decide what is best. We will take up with the cabinet,” he added.
