Shillong, April 10: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Monday that the government feels that roster system should not be from retrospective effect.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Shad Suk Mynsiem at Weiking Ground, Jaiaw, Tynsong said initially the High Court wanted the roster system to be effective from 1972.
“We filed three affidavits and the recent order of the court is welcome as it does not mention about retrospective effect”, he said.
Discussion by cabinet, MDA & all parties
In response to a question on VPP demanding a special session to discuss the roster system Tynsong said that meetings of all parties, cabinet and MDA partners will be held to discuss the roster system.
GSU concerned
The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has said the continued discussion of the roster system and its present turmoil on the matter should not come in the way of state job reservation policy, 1972.
The GSU, in a statement, warned that any deviation of the job reservation policy will be taken very seriously by the people of Garo Hills.
The GSU president Tengsak Gabil Momin said the retrospective and prospective nature of implementation of the system is fair to be discussed but it must not be a platform to discredit the wisdom of the founding fathers of Meghalaya by any attempt to dilute the Meghalaya Reservation Policy, 1972.
