Rymbui rules out rejoining Congress

Shillong, Sept 7: UDP leader and cabinet minister Lahkmen Rymbui has ruled out rejoining the Congress.

The new Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala is making efforts to bring back former leaders who left the party ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.

Rymbui, who was one among the party men to quit the Congress before the 2018 Assembly polls, joined the UDP and won from Amlarem.

According to Rymbui, he would not rejoin even if the Congress calls him back.

When asked, if Pala joining state politics would affect the UDP, the minister however said, “The Congress has got its vote bank across (the state) and we cannot rule that out but in the recent years, the people have experienced the Congress regime and they know that is why what I see is that yes any leader no doubt has got his own capacity but we should not depend on the situation within the Congress. We from the UDP we need to see that in politics, every party has to prepare itself as it will all depend on the people of the state.”
