Rymbui to review weapons dumping, HNLC talks rejection
Shillong,Aug 21: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui will review the letter of youths regarding dumping of weapons in the river and the rejection of HNLC for peace talks.
Rymbui said on Saturday that though he has no details about these two issues, he will hold a review meeting with officials for a discussion.
On August 15, some unidentified youths, after taking away a police vehicle, brandished weapons and roamed around the city in protest against the killing of former general secretary of HNLC Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew on August 13.
Though the youths had claimed that they had dumped the weapons in the river, police and the government did not accept the theory and appealed to them to hand over the weapons.
As far as the issue of talks with the HNLC is concerned, the outfit said that it is not willing to hold dailogue with the government.
Thangkhiew acted as unofficial negotiator for peace talks between the HNLC and the Centre.
The chief minister on Friday said theĀ government wants to hold unconditional talks with the HNLC.
