Shillong, Nov 13: Labour minister Sanbor Shullai, who represents South Shillong, on Saturday gave away awards to meritorious students who excelled in various examinations in 2020-21.
Raid Laban Sports Social and Cultural Organisation has organised the 17th meritorious awards in collaboration with the state government.
Differently abled students and also those coming from the below poverty line (BPL) families were among the 258 meritorious students who were felicitated.
A total of 30 toppers who have excelled in the different examinations were also awarded with laptops.
Over 5,000 students from different parts of the constituency have been felicitated during the last 17 years.
Like other years, the organisation also included the dropout students and those coming from BJP families who passed out in any division, as a gesture of encouragement for their achievements.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the award ceremony, Shullai said the objective of the award ceremony was to further encourage students in their studies.
He said promotion of education and extending financial support to students are his top most priorities as a public representative. “It is my duty to contribute to the people of my constituency and the state as a whole,” Shullai added.
