Shillong, July 8: Mawsynram legislator HM Shangpliang has asked the state government to upgrade Mawsynram C&RD Block into a civil sub division.
In a letter submitted to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday, Shangpliang said that along with the official announcement of Mairang district, Mawsynram block should also be declared as a civil sub division as this will enable the people of the area to see development more closely and at a faster mode.
The Congress legislator apprised the chief minister that in the past, several memorandums and petitions were submitted by various local bodies, pressure groups, NGOs and prominent leaders of the area to upgrade Mawsynram into a civil sub division.
According to Shangpliang, the topography and terrain of the area, the distance of the border areas to the district headquarter in Shillong and the poor connectivity in terms of road and communication are the key factors causing hurdles for faster development.
