‘Shillong MP did not call DISHA meeting’

Shillong, Feb 26: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has pointed out that the sitting Shillong MP Vincent Pala was supposed to convene the meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA)
Earlier, in reply to a question by Heavingstone Kharpran(VPP), Community and Rural Development Minister AT Mondal informed the Assembly that no DISHA meetings were held in Shillong and Ri Bhoi for the last one year.
Kharpran from Mawryngkneng and UDP legislator from Nongpoh Mayralborn requested the MP to convene the DISHA meeting to which, Mondal said, “I will inform the MP to convene the DISHA meeting.”
According to him, convening of the DISHA meeting is the prerogative of the MP to review the implementation of all central government flagship programmes and to also look into the grievances faced by the respective beneficiaries.
Conrad said the DISHA is not a programme of the state government.
“It is not the state’s responsibility to convene the meeting. Government of India will monitor the central schemes through the MP and it is the MP’s prerogative to convene the meeting as it is directly between the departments and the MP,” he said.
