1010 recruits get job in police

Shillong, July 21: The city will have a police commissioner as the government is planning to have a commissionerate of police in the city.

Announcing this at the certificate distribution function at Mawdiangdiang on Friday, the chief minister said that the commissionerate will go beyond the functioning of the SP office.

As many as 1010 new recruits received the certificates out of 159527 applicants (see picture).

According to the chief minister, the police commissionerate will help to address the recurring law and problems.

He said the government will set up an engineering wing of the police so that minor works can be taken by the wing.

He also suggested the need to have gyms or facilities to have fitness for the police atleast at the district level.

Don’t politicise posts’

The state government has asked the new recruits of the Meghalaya police not to influence the MLAs for posting and not to do politics.

Reminding the advice of the chief secretary DP Wahlang to the new recruits not to play politics, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong said there is no room for politics in the police.

He also added that the selection was purely on merit.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, the DGP LR Bishnoi said though the recruitment started in 2919, Covid had delayed it.

The chief secretary urged the recruits to plan the finance and not to overspend though they got the government job.

Wahlang also wanted the recruits to be physically fit.

The spiritual advice of the chief secretary to the recruits was to say a prayer before starting any task.

Engineers part of recruits

Engineers, postgraduates and graduates form part of the new Meghalaya police recruits.

While there are two engineers, 29 are post graduates. The number of graduates is 235 and class XII 431.

An official said atleast five lawyers turned up for recruitment but they were not qualified.
