Simple happiness at SPARK centres on Teachers’ Day
Shillong, Sept 5: No big stage, a miniscule audience, no dignitaries, no proper equipment, and definitely no fancy refreshment. SPARK celebrated Teachers’ Day with the conviction of its volunteer teachers and the precious smiles of the children whom it serves.
The city-based NGO, which works with under-privileged children, celebrated the day with over 300 children at its care centres at Mawlynrei Triashnong, Mawlong, Bara Bazaar and Rangmen Nongsder.
The programme was organised with zeal breaking all the burdens of stress, worries and anxiety for the children, most of whom are ragpickers in the city or farm workers in the villages.
The programme started with the prayer service by the children. There was a cake cutting ceremony and a cultural programme at each centre by the students and the teachers.
“Today, SPARK could proudly say that it has succeeded in building a strong family who are in support of each other at the times of crises,” said the NGO president Shima Modak in a media statement.
