Six areas complicated; need confidence building measures: Assam CM

Shillong, Sep 13: Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya Himanta Biswa Sarma and Conrad Sangma have initiated confidence building measures as the six areas of difference are complicated.

According to Assam chief minister, only after the confidence building measures  both the chief ministers can visit the border areas.

“Our visits to border areas should not create any tension and only after the confidence building measures, we will visit the border”, Himanta told reporters.

Both the chief ministers met here to resolve the border dispute in six areas which include Langpih among others.

The chief ministers did not want to make clear the decision to the question on retransfer of areas under Block I and II.

“All these are points of discussion and let further meetings take place regarding these issues”,  Conrad said.

Sarma said the chief minister level talks can be held in October either first week or the second week if Meghalaya chief minister is free.

“Today, both the chief ministers informally  met to have confidence building measures, maintain peace and harmony in the border .We want to keep the best interest of the people living in border. The six areas are complicated and hence we want to initiate confidence building measures”, Himanta said.

The Assam chief minister said survey post for Hahim border is ready and hoped that dispute in other areas will be resolved at the earliest.

Karbi Bhavan opened 

Earlier, Conrad opened Karbi Bhavan in the presence of Himanta in Laban.

Foundation stone for 100 bed Karbi Hostel and commercial complex was also laid on the occasion.

Both the chief ministers stressed the need on the part of both the communities to live in peace and harmony.

Chief Executive Members of KHADC and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council besides the executive members were also present.
