Shillong, Nov 4: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has said there is a proposal to hold a special session of the Assembly on December 20.
“We proposed for a special session, a pre- Christmas sitting of the House and the last one during the current five- year term”, Metbah told reporters on Friday.
According to Metbah, it will be befitting to hold the session before the members prepare for the upcoming Assembly polls.
The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) met the Speaker in the evening and demanded a special session of the Assembly to repeal the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act (MRGA), 2021.
When asked, the Speaker said it is upto the government to decide on the issue raised by HITO.

After submitting a memorandum to the Assembly Speaker , HITO president Donbok Dkhar said, “We request the State Legislative Assembly through you to arrange a special session in connection with the matter relating to the gaming act, 2021.
He said people from every nook and corner of the state are looking forward to see the government taking a clear stand on the issue.
Dkhar said the Speaker assured to take a call on the matter.
To a question, Dkhar said the organisation will disrupt Cherry Blossom festival if the government does not agree to hold a special session.
