This national initiative is part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and it will help in training inmates in selected sports activities.

Speaking during the launch of ‘Parivartan prison to pride’ via video conference, Vaidya said the objective of this initiative was to help prison inmates build a better life and help inmates boost their self-esteem and confidence which in turn help them overcome the stigma associated with imprisonment.

“Parivartan prison to pride aims to reach out to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable sections of the society… which will help add joy and health to the lives of all inmates,” he added.

The sporting disciplines include basketball, badminton, volleyball, chess, tennis, table tennis, kho-kho and carrom.

The initiative will engage as many as 75 inmates who will be trained in carrom board and volleyball with the launching of the coaching camps.
