Spring care for healthy hair

It is critical to prepare and protect your hair from warm weather that may cause cuticle damage, dryness & hairfall

With the days getting longer since the spring Equinox and temperatures rising slowly, the new spring season is approaching. There’s no better time to give your scalp and haircare routine the spring cleaning treatment. Seasonal changes call for a fresh renewal of your haircare routine, and an understanding of transitional haircare.

As we transition from winter to spring, our hair undergoes transformation. It is critical to prepare and protect your hair from the warm weather. As we move from the chilly winter to the warmth of spring, our hair undergoes its seasonal shedding, transitioning from the dry, brittle conditions of winter to the vibrant, lively days ahead. The sunlight, while uplifting for our mood, can be harsh on our hair, potentially leading to cuticle damage, dryness and colour fade.

Increased warmth as well as more time spent outdoors can significantly impact hair health, affecting moisture levels, texture, and overall hair vitality.

For men, adapting to the changing weather is essential to maintain a healthy scalp and hair. Increased humidity, exposure to pollen, and fluctuating temperatures can impact hair health.

This seasonal shift calls for a spring haircare adjustment to tackle the challenges and seize the advantages of the new season.

Start spring with a trim

An increase in humidity in the spring season can cause repetitive swelling, dehydration and shrink hair strands. It can lead to dry hair, hair breakage and hair fall. Trimming them off is the first step to healthy, spring hair. A fresh trim will also help your hair look and feel lighter for the spring season. Spring is the perfect time to try a new hairstyle.

Hair trims help natural hair growth, retain its strength and keep it looking fresh.

Trimming your hair prevents split ends and keeps it looking fresh.

Adjusting your hair washing frequency to 2-3 times per week can help tackle sweat, pollutants and buildup, ensuring your scalp stays healthy. Moisturise your hair with natural hair oils, organic shampoos and aloe vera-enriched conditioners.

Protect hair from chlorine

Pool days are inevitable during spring. The feeling of gliding through the water can feel serene. But chlorine can strip your hair of its natural oils and lead to dry, brittle locks.

Although chlorine is great for wiping out harmful bacteria and keeping the pool water clean, it’s also harsh on your hair. Regular exposure to chlorine can make your hair highly porous and also change the colour of your hair.

If your skin is sensitive to chlorine, it can result in an itchy and irritated scalp. It is advised to cover your hair with swimming cap to keep your hair completely dry. You can help protect your hair even more by plaiting or twisting hair up before putting the cap on.

Shower before going into the pool. to remove any dirt and oils from your hair. This will guarantee that less water’s chlorine is absorbed by your hair. In a similar vein, immediately rinse your hair with fresh water after swimming to get rid of the chlorine.

Protect hairs from UV rays

In spring, the amount of UV radiation increases at once, along with the temperature rise.

Spring is also the season when pollen fills the air and causes damage by clinging to our hair and scalp without us knowing.

To protect your hair from UV rays during spring, consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat or scarf, using UV-protectant hair products, and maintaining a healthy, hydrated hair care routine.

Use a leave-in conditioner or UV protectant spray with SPF before heading outdoors. Additionally, wearing a wide-brimmed hat or scarf can provide extra shade and minimise sun exposure to your hair and scalp.

Hair sunscreen should always be applied if you are going to be exposed to the sun for an extended period during peak UV time.

Shield your strands from wind

Spring often brings blustery days that can leave your hair tangled and unruly.

Strong winds can tangle and twist your hair, causing physical damage like split ends and knots. Frequent exposure to windy conditions can also increase the likelihood of breakage, especially if your hair is already dry or brittle.

Windy days can be aggravating when you have a lot of hair—especially if you like to spend time perfecting your coif.  To combat the wind, consider styling your hair in a protective hairstyle such as a bun, braid, or ponytail. These styles keep your hair secure and minimise exposure to the elements, reducing the risk of breakage and tangling.
