Shillong, Feb 3: The state government has started dismantling all illegal coke oven plants in West Khasi Hills.
The process started from Thursday night following the direction of the chief secretary after the high court of Meghalaya questioned the delay in taking action.
An official source said on Friday that bull dozers were used to bring down the illegal coke plants.
After the court on Thursday asked the chief secretary to be present on Friday during the hearing with the action taken report, the chief secretary was present and a report has been filed.
The court was acting following a PIL moved by Monu Kumar.
The matter will be taken up again onĀ February 8. The seriousness of the situation has been explained to the chief secretary, who has assured the court that its orders will be strictly adhered to and necessary directions have been issued.
