State gets award for JJM performance
Shillong, Oct 2: State secured second prize for its performance in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The award was conferred by the President of India Droupadi Murmu.
Minister in-charge PHE Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar accepted the award during Swachh Bharat Diwas held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Tongkhar was accompanied by Mission Director of JJM Syed Md A Razi, state coordinator for JJM BM Lyndem and other officials.
The award is for functionality assessment of tap connections conducted by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti through a 3rd party – Hindustan Thompson Pvt. Ltd in rural areas of all states/UTs.
On the basis of the results of the exercise, the well performed states/UTs were felicitated during the event.
Tongkhar extended his congratulations to the entire PHE department particularly the officers who have been working day and night to ensure smooth implementation of the JJM in the state.
“We are receiving award one after the other and this time I am very proud to tell you that the award that we are receiving is very difficult to achieve as it is about the overall functionality of the water tap connection which is not easy. Just to give pipes it may not be that difficult but to ensure water is being provided that is difficult,” he said.
