State issues advisory, shares phone numbers after Bangladesh violence

Shillong, July 18: The state government has issued advisory and shared phone numbers of officials following violence in Bangladesh over quota issue.
Protests by the students erupted in the neighbouring country after the government allowed 30% job quota for the freedom fighters and their descendents.

“In view of the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, the Indian community members and the Indian students residing in Bangladesh are advised to avoid travel and minimize their movement outside their living premises. The state goverment has also activated the helpline number 1800-345-3644 for citizens of Meghalaya who may require assistance due to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.
Citizens of the state can call the helpline number 1800-345-3644 of DIPR for any assistance they may need related to the incident.
63 Meghalaya students return
Meghalaya government said it is in constant touch with the Bangladesh High Commission and the Indian High Commission , Land Port Authority, Dawki and Exporters Association to ensure the safety of the students.
161 students from India (of which 63 from Meghalaya, )95 from Nepal and 7 from Bhutan have entered through Dawki since the clashes
