State may lose money meant for railways in Khasi Hills

Shillong, July 6: Chief minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday feared that money meant for railway projects in Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi may go somewhere else as there is opposition.

Speaking to reporters, Conrad said the  government of India will not wait too long as there is a possibility that it will cancel the project up to Shillong and money will be shifted for other zones wherever the railway connectivity is possible.

“There is an active talk with the government of India that the money meant for the project will be diverted and will be put up for projects for other zones or other areas in the state which are opened to the railways,” he said.

According to the chief minister, everything is being put on hold as far as Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi sections are concerned.
