Shillong,July 18: The state was silent when its view on the selection of Advocate Biswadeep Bhattacharjee as High Court Judge was sought.

The supreme court collegium had on July 12 this year decided to elevate Additional Advocate General Bhattacharjee as the High Court Judge.

The decision was following the recommendation of the three-member collegium of High Court of Meghalaya on August 12 last year.

Following this, the opinion of the state government was sought.

An official source on Tuesday said that as there was no response from the state government, the union ministry of Law and Justice sent the proposal to the Supreme Court for approval.

The Centre depended on the provision that if the state government does not give any response within six weeks, the proposal will stand following which the SC collegium went ahead with the decision.

With this, the High Court will have full quorum as the strength of the court is four comprising Chief Justice and three judges.
