Land slides & flash floods

Shillong,June 27: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said the state will seek more funds from Centre  to restore the infrastructure damages caused by the recent rain-induced landslides and flash floods.

According to the chief minister,  after preliminary assessment, the state has come up with Rs 300 crore.

“When I met the Home Minister Amit Shah he told me that he would send a central team to ensure the assessment is accurate. I am happy he had suggested that and based on that, he had asked me to make a trip to the affected areas and when I went to the field, I could see with my own eyes that the damages were unimaginable,” Sangma said.

The chief minister said while they waited for the central team to assess the damages, he had also asked his own department to assess the overall situation and take up repair immediately which will not require the support of the central government.
