Shillong, Oct 8: The state government has decided to establish detoxification and de-addiction centres in all districts.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma held a review meeting with the health, social welfare, and home departments to assess the progress of the government’s DREAM Mission, a programme aimed at curbing drug abuse in the state.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the chief minister said that the concerned departments have been directed to identify suitable locations — either in government hospitals or through private and faith-based organisations willing to set up such centres.
These centres are expected to be operational within the next 3–4 months across the state.
“The state government remains firmly committed to eradicating the drug menace and has instructed departments to take strict measures, including the installation of CCTVs in hotspot areas and close collaboration with various stakeholders. The issue is of utmost concern, and the government will respond to it with utmost seriousness and resolve it”, the chief minister added.
