
Shillong, Oct 8: New Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya Soumen Sen assumed office on Wednesday.
Governor CH Vijayashankar administered the oath of office to him at Raj Bhavan.
Before his new assignment here, Sen was appointed as acting Chief Justice of the High Court, Calcutta, from September 16 this year.

His 96-year-old father, other relatives and well-wishers from Kolkata and judges and officials from here also attended the ceremony.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, cabinet ministers and Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma were also present.
Justice Sen was born on July 27, 1965, in Kolkata. He completed his schooling at St. Lawrence High School, Kolkata. He passed the 5-year LL.B. examination from the University of Calcutta in 1990, securing the highest mark and standing first in the examination. He participated in debates and moot court competitions and adjudged first in order of merit for individual performance at the XII All India Moot Court Competition 1989 held in Pondicherry in connection with selection for the International Division of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition-1989.
After enrolling as an advocate under Bar Council of West Bengal in January 1991, he practiced as an advocate in the High Court at Calcutta, both in the original side and appellate side and before other courts/tribunals for the last 20 years. He was designated as senior central government advocate and appeared in civil, constitutional, banking and arbitration matters on behalf of RBI, SEBI, SIDBI and other statutory authorities.
He was elevated as Judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2011. (Biodata from Calcutta HC website)
