State Trinamool MLAs protest in Delhi for language & border issues

Shillong, July 26: Several All India Trinamool Congress MLAs protested against the non-inclusion of Khasi-Garo languages in the eighth schedule to the constitution while they also demanded repeal of border deal signed by Assam and Meghalaya in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
AITC MPs also joined the protests.
According to AITC leader Mukul Sangma, besides the inclusion of Khasi-Garo languages lingering long, the issue of Assam-Meghalaya border, needs to be attended to by the present government.
The current agreement does not acknowledge the sentiments of the people of Meghalaya and hence it must be repealed, the protestors said.
“There has been a persistent demand from the people of Meghalaya to include Garo and Khasi in the 8th schedule to the Constitution of India. We don’t understand the reason for delay in inclusion. Our demand is consistent with the aspirations of our people, particularly the youth. The inclusion of these languages in the 8th schedule provides a platform, for a fair playing ground for the youth”, Mukul said.
Besides Mukul, others MLAs who protested in Delhi were state president Charles Pyngrope, George Lyngdoh, Dikkanchi Shira, Zenith Sangma, Winnerson Sangma and Lazarus Sangma.
