Tactical team-1 responsible for the death of Cherishtarfield: Judicial report

Shillong, Sept 9: The  report of the judicial inquiry commission headed by retired Chief Justice T Vaiphei, found that the tactical team-1 was responsible for the death of former HNLC leader Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’ tabled the report in the Assembly on Friday.

“Therefore, my finding is that the technical team -1 in carrying out the operation to arrest the deceased at his residence on 13-8-2021 at about 3am was culpable of thoughtless and excessive use of force, which resulted in the death of the deceased late Cherishtarfield Thangkhiew, which turned out to be available”

However,the report did not name the members of the tactical team.

In response under Action Taken, the government said an explanation call will be issued to the technical team-1.
