Shillong, March 11: The talks initiated by the state government with the KSU on Tuesday failed as the former refused to keep in abeyance the implementation of Meghalaya State Investment Promotion & Facilitation Act, 2024.
The state government will take up the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion & Facilitation (Amendment) Bill 2025 on Thursday for passing.

The amendments acknowledge Land Transfer Act and the role of district councils.
KSU general secretary Donald Thabah told reporters after the meeting convened by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that the discussion failed to.address the concerns of the students’ body even after hours of deliberations.
The KSU wanted scrapping of the Act as it contradicts the Land Transfer Act.
Thabah said the government informed the delegation that further amendments to the Act will be made in winter session.
He said further course of action will be decided by the KSU after a meeting.
Earlier in the day, the KSU activists protested against the Act but were prevented from proceeding towards the Assembly in Rilbong.
