Tax Payers Hub in city from June 10 to 12

Shillong, June 7: Income Tax Department, Shillong in collaboration with Central Board of Direct Taxes, New Delhi will hold the “Tax Payers’ Hub”,  at Shillong Club from June 10 to 12.

Principal Commissioner, Income Tax, Shillong Dinesh Sawkmie, Joint Commissioner Anand Kumar and Additional Commissioner Rintei Renthlei jointly addressed a press conference on Friday regarding the Tax Payers Hub, an  outreach programme to empower taxpayers with knowledge, provide them any information they need on tax related matters, solve their grievances and spread tax awareness along with financial literacy for the people of Meghalaya.

The event will be inaugurated at 12 pm on June 10 by Archana Choudhury, Principal Director General of Income Tax (Admn and TPS), New Delhi and Chaitali Panmei, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, NER, Guwahati would also be present.

The department had organised such Tax Payers’ Hubs at Bhagalpur, Gorakpur, Visakhapatnam, Jhansi, Cuttack and in the coming months at Ajmer. The event is being organised to showcase the department’s initiative for tax payers’ services and facilitate voluntary compliance. The Income Tax Department believes that every tax payer is a nation builder. Educating the tax payers about the rights and obligations under the Income Tax Act is one of the main objectives of this initiative. There will be information kiosks and pamphlets will be distributed to all the visitors. The Hub will witness the use of innovative methods like virtual reality games, quiz competition, magic shows and nukkad natak. Special brochures will also be printed to create awareness and foster tax literacy among the youth of the state. Brochures will also be distributed relating to statutory compliance required by the Schedule Tribe of NER for claiming exemption u/s 10(26) of the I.T. Act. There will be special kiosks in which the new tax payers will get themselves registered in the department website. A dedicated kiosk has been setup for redressal of grievances of the tax payers.
