The match must go on, says Supreme Court
Apex Court bats for Asia Cup match between India & Pakistan, rejects urgent listing of PIL seeking cancellation

Shillong, Sept 11 (Agencies): The match must go on, the Supreme Court said on Thursday, while refusing to allow an urgent listing of a PIL that sought the cancellation of an India-Pakistan T20 cricket match.
The Asia Cup match is scheduled to be held in Dubai on September 14 (Sunday). Four law students filed the PIL, and the counsel for the petitioners sought listing on Friday because the match was scheduled on Sunday.

However, the bench, comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Vishnoi, said, “The match must go on.”
The Bar & Bench reported that according to the petitioners, “organising a cricket match with Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, in which Indian civilians and soldiers sacrificed their lives, sends a message inconsistent with national dignity and public sentiment”.
The petitioners have also sought directions for implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, Bar & Bench reported.
