The memorial stone
To gain fame and dignity for his name, his country, race, or culture, one needs to stand strong in the storm, stern on his determination, and attempt his best to reach the target. Prior to this, one needs to commit oneself to fulfil his desires and achievements.
Desire or goal at all times comes from within and not by imitating or persuading. It is certain that people were born to live and die, however, their great deeds and contributions to the community and society would be of great remembrance of their efforts, struggles, especially their love for the motherland, and their community for generations to come.
Though their souls leave us all, yet their deeds and contributions are immortal and hence this speaks volume of their name, fame, and dignity. It is never easy to rise to fame or glory. But it is through perseverance and hard work that one sets an example and becomes an inspiration to the people of his land for generations.
India is a huge country with a large population, and with many languages spoken, caste, culture, religion and races. Over centuries, the country has produced great souls whose values have inspirated crores over generations. We had individuals like Mahatma Gandhi, The Father of the Nation, and a freedom fighter for peace and non-violence, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, also a freedom fighter who supports self-reliance, Sarojini Naidu, a great poet who struggled for India’s independence, and many others.
Similarly, when focusing on the state of Meghalaya, individuals like Soso Tham, Kiang Nongbah, Tirot Sing, Togan Sangma and others have made great contributions for the perfection, growth and development of the Khasi community. These brave hearts have made different contributions which include literary works, struggle for freedom and a better tomorrow for their motherland and their people. Though they are no more among us, yet we remember them for their works. Their sacrifices, be it in any way, have no doubt left people to reckon and go after their stride.
Therefore, of all their contributions to the country and its people, memorial stones are set up for their fame and dignity. The setting up of memorial stones represents the efforts and the indenture made by these individuals.
Moreover, the signs and symbols of memorial stones clearly indicate that their works and sacrifices are ever immortal and that their name and fame can still be heard and also read across the country, states, or even around the globe. Hence, though they have gone through a short span of life, yet their contributions will live on.
