CM issues statement on Rajabala incident

Shillong, Jan 10: Police arrested three persons involved in murdering ACHIK member Dilseng M Sangma.

In a video statement on Saturday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that three persons were arrested in connection with the crime and urged people of Garo Hills to maintain peace.

He also cautioned people to avoid social media posts with communal nature.

The incident was reported from Goalgaon under Rajabala police station, West Garo Hills on January 9 afternoon.

The activist was part of the team visiting illegal stone quarries.

They were attacked by a group leading to the death of the ACHIK activist and injury to another.

“Deeply distressed by the tragic loss of a young life and the serious injury sustained by another in the incident at Rajabala, West Garo Hills District. I strongly condemn this heinous act and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. My thoughts and prayers are with the injured, and I wish them a speedy and complete recovery. In response, the Meghalaya Police in West Garo Hills conducted multiple raids last night, resulting in the arrest of three individuals. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend all others involved in this crime. The Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, is engaging with civil society organisations to constitute a Peace Committee and ensure that all concerns are addressed through dialogue. I appeal to the people of Garo Hills to remain calm, uphold communal harmony, and not allow misinformation or rumours to disturb the peace, unity, and humanity of our region”, Conrad said.

CoMSO and GSU have expressed anguish over the incident and sought action against the culprits.
