Ardent raises plight of farmers in Assembly

Shillong, Aug 27: Agriculture Minister Timothy Shira said that the government is trying to address the plight of the farmers.
He was replying to questions by Ardent Basaiawmoit ( VPP) who raised black marketing of fertilisers and their exploitations.
Both the minister and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured to address the problems of farmers.
Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi (TMC) raised a supplementary question on the need to boost organic farming.
Shira said most of the farmers are not using fertilisers in Garo Hills.
Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar (UDP) and Banteidor Lyngdoh (NPP) also raised supplementary questions.
Cabbage price up
Referring to protests by the farmers who distributed cabbages free as the price has come down, the chief minister said that a study conducted showed that in July, the price of cabbage comes down due to availability of the vegetables and the price goes up in August and September.
The price of per kg cabbage varies from Rs 20 to 25.
