Shillong, Sept 24: The Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders’ Forum (KJCLF) on Thursday ( Sept 24) termed as a betrayal of the electorate the 8 UDP MLAs’ indirect entry into the BJP.

“When an individual or a group of individuals join a political party, we have nothing to say. However, when elected Party MLAs cross over to join another Party from which they were not voted in the beginning, that is a tragic betrayal of the electorate! It is a confirmation of their obsessive lust for power and profitable self gratification rather than a conscious desire to contribute to good governance advancing the common good of the electorate and the State.
BJP supports majoritarianism and is known for its supportive silences on many issues – ethnic violence in Manipur, hateful speeches and attacks perpetrated by right-wing and extremist groups against Christians and other minority groups. While introducing economic and welfare schemes, BJP promotes the agenda _One Nation, One Language, One Religion_ and other strategies which threaten the diversities of indigenous and minorities existence.
In Meghalaya BJP is known for domination politics. Even without a clear mandate, with two seats in the House, the Party is seen to have dominated different aspects of the Government. Currently, the saffron Party here has now been given a false and fake sense of legitimacy by these MLAs who have succumbed and flip-flopped themselves in exasperated frustration on the altar of seduction and enticement. For X pieces of silver and a fleeting glitter on an alien platform these MLAs have violated the trust of the electorate at home and are now bereft of any ethical and moral values. It is for the voters in these constituencies to show their political outrage and strip the mantle off from these politician-opportunists.
