Shillong, Sept 8: NPP is a family party which gives all political appointments to the siblings of Late P.A.Sangma’s family, according to Tura MDC Bernard Marak.
Agatha Sangma was appointed chairperson of state child rights commission on Friday.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Marak said, “No matter how smart and educated other members of the party maybe, but the benefit would always go to the family. Dynastic politics reigns in NPP and all efforts put in by hard working members of the party go down to benefit a few members of the family. Even Rajya Sabha would be given to the family member only. It’s so pathetic that those against whom majority of the people have voted against get the benefit to lead as a chief of prestigious panel. Maybe that’s what democracy means to them. I am personally questioning why only family members alone getting political appointments after losing elections? Is there shortage of intelligent and capable leaders in NPP?”
KHNAM cites violation
KHNAM leader Thomas Passah said the government notification dated 10 July 2013 clearly states that “A Chairperson should be a person of eminence and who has done outstanding work for promoting welfare of children”.
According to Passah, they do not see that Agatha Sangma qualifies for the appointment. “We also feel that such appointment will jeopardise the welfare of children in the state”, he said.
The party expressed its opposition in ‘open display of political power by the MDA government. Appointment of Advisors, Chairman, Vice Chairman etc at the expense of the exchequer has already cought the lime light to which the general public have expressed concern and dissatisfaction. Now with this latest appointment it seems clear that the MDA government is all out for nepotism and political appointments just to ensure to forcefully hold on to power. This is total dictatorship, the KHNAM leader said.
“We are also surprised to know that James Sangma is also the key person in this decision where in he has submitted a written proposal to the Government, now how can general public have any say in government decision. We know that other political parties who are in the MDA will not object to such nepotism since they too have their share of political appointments”.
