Turtle tales in Sekhsaria’s first book for children

Shillong, August 29: Author and academic Pankaj Sekhsaria has published his first book for children, Waiting for Turtles.
Through the story, Sekhsaria, who is a long-time researcher of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, sets out to raise awareness about the oldest group of reptiles — turtles. It also enlightens readers about the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the various environmental issues surrounding turtles through its informative back matter.
The book, which is the author’s fifth on the islands, is published by Karadi Tales. The Last Wave and Islands in Flux are among Sekhsaria’s books on Andaman and Nicobar.
The illustration for Waiting for Turtles has been done by Vipin Sketchplore. The story unfolds on the small island of Tarmugli in the Mahatma Gandhi National Park in the Andamans. Samrat is accompanying Seema, his mother and turtle researcher, in the hope of seeing his first nesting green sea turtle that nests on the beaches here. There is disappointment for Samrat but there is also a surprise.
