Two-day Na Thymmei festival from Oct 26

Shillong, Oct 15: The third edition of Na Thymmei festival will be held on October 26 and 27 at Madan Weiking, Jaiaw.

The festival organised by Seng Khasi Kmie is aimed at celebrating the essence of Indigeneity.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Hmarsing Kharmar, the cultural secretary, said that 75 percent of the expenditure will be from the tourism department and 25 percent will be borne by the organisation.

On October 27, a traditional fashion contest – Ka Lukhimai & U Nai Khadsaw Synñia will be held.

The traditional dance forms and cultural activities will form part of the festival.

This festival will showcase the rich culture and traditions of the state. The festival
has a specially curated program which will include rarely seen traditional dances, folk
music, dramas, workshops and presentations on indigenous wisdom and knowledge and
indigenous cuisine.
The festival will enable visitors to have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the
indigenous culture and traditional art forms . Alongside the showcasing of ancient traditions,the festival also give a platform to troupes and artists who are creating new forms from the timeless heritage they have inherited from ancestors.

The organisation will invite cultural troupes from the neighbouring region to perform.
