The coordination panel comprising Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Jaintia Student Movement (JSM), Jaintia Student Union (JSU) and Khasi Student Union (KSU) was part of the inspection team.

“We found that there’s a shortage of teachers in both the schools and these schools have poor infrastructure as they lack a proper building, proper classroom and there is no adequate toilet on the premises for the students” said Sutong.

Sutong said that Nartiang Pohshnong Govt LP school has around 130 to 140 students but the irony is that there is only one teacher who is also the headmaster of the school, hence most of the students have to skip class as one teacher cannot teach more than hundred students at a time but in Nartiang Moodop Govt LP school, there are four teachers.

According to Surong, these schools do not have proper furniture like benches, desks, blackboard and chairs which makes is difficult for the teachers to impart education to the students.

“If the conditions of l schools in the region are in such pathetic state, then what is the point of sending our children to such schools which cannot even provide basic amenities to our children let alone education” he added.

Sutong informed that the education official whom the delegation met had sought a detailed report on the two schools.
